Traver Freeman

Dear Pastor and Church Family,

Thank you for taking a moment to read and consider us as potential missionaries to partner alongside you and your ministry with prayers and financial support. It truly is the partnership of local churches like yours that allows us to serve as missionaries. We would be excited and grateful to be considered your representatives to Australia.

It is our desire to plant churches in Australia. We will accomplish this goal with the assistance of the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). We will be working in connection with the regular ministry of ABWE in Australia. For the first two years, we will serve directly with one of the existing churchplants. This time will allow us to gain a greater understanding of the Australian culture and learn from veteran missionaries while also satisfying the legal requirements for becoming permanent residents.

With the support of our local church, Shadow Mountain Community Church, we anticipate the guidance and provision of the Lord. After allowing Amy and I to visit Australia on three short-term missions trips and a summer internship, we believe that God has called us to return to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Australia. Would you respond to this goal by: 1. Allowing us to present our ministry to you and your congregation, 2. Praying for our ministry, and 3. Praying whether God would have you partner with us for the souls of the people of Australia.

On this website you will find our information packet, doctrinal statement, copy of our prayer card, and latest prayer letter. Thank you for taking the time to visit our site!

In Christ,
Traver Freeman

Less than 8% of Australians attend a church of any kind.

Our Story

In 2009, Traver and Amy Freeman went on their first missions trip to Mildura, Australia through Go Forth Baptist Missions. At that point, they were not married and had only been friends for a few months. They met for the first time at the first meeting for Team Australia in October of 2008. The 2009 Team Australia summer missions trip would change their lives.

That summer, Traver and Amy met Australia missionaries Steven and Christy Maldoff. They were able to assist the Maldoffs in a variety of ministries including Holiday Bible Club, Teen activities, Sunday School, and leading a three day program at Mildura Christian College (College is Australian for Academy; University describes secondary education, also called Uni for short). Traver also began assisting in the Media Ministry of Murray River Baptist Church designing a Kid`s Club poster, church tracts, and newspaper advertisement ideas. Throughout the three weeks, 2 people received salvation, trusting in Christ`s death and resurrection as payment for their sins.

Following the missions trip, Traver and Amy began a relationship. In the following summer of 2010, Traver was an intern with Murray River Baptist Church under the direction of Steven Maldoff. He spent 3 months in the work of the ministry with many hands-on opportunities to experience daily life and ministry. For the first two months, Traver was directly involved in helping out with Kid`s Club, teaching Bible in the public schools, leading Teen Club, and continuing his work with the Media Ministry. During the last month, Team Australia 2010 from Go Forth Baptist Missions arrived, along with Amy. Together again, Traver and Amy took their experience from the previous year and led the way at Mildura Christian College and directed at Holiday Bible Club. That year, they were also able to be counselors at Ankara Camp hosted by South West Baptist Church of Adelaide, South Australia. Throughout this trip, 7 placed their faith in the finished work of Christ for their salvation and many more made decisions to serve Christ.

Upon returning to the States, Traver and Amy were engaged. Traver began his Master of Divinity at Pensacola Theological Seminary as Amy finished up her Bachelor of Science in Commercial Art. They were married on June 4, 2011. That summer, classes prevented the Freemans from going to Australia. Amy began work on her Master of Bible Exposition with PTS in the fall of 2011. They both graduated from PTS in May of 2013. In July of 2014, their son James was born. It was at this point Traver and Amy moved to San Diego, CA and became involved with Shadow Mountain Community Church.

In the summer of 2016, the Freemans became missionaries with the Association of Baptist for World Evangelism (ABWE) to return to Australia as church planters. They are currently on their full-time pre-field ministry. Will you pray for God to raise the support they need to return to the field quickly?

Traver

Salvation Testimony:

At the age of five, Traver placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour on Easter Sunday during Sunday School. He recognized that he was a sinner and that only Jesus Christ could pay the penalty for his sin.

Call to Ministry:

Traver began college as a Graphic Design major. During that first year of Bible college, through the preaching of the Word of God and the counsel of his pastor and godly friends, Traver understood the call of God on his life and he surrendered to preach. Through the next three years, God continued to narrow that call. Church planting became an immediate burden and God called him to Australia after his summer internship and second trip to Australia in 2010.

Ministry Objective:

Traver`s primary objective is to strategically establish a church plant in the country of Australia. The need for churches in Australia is great. In Mildura, the third largest rural city in Australia, only two independent Baptist churches exist for a population of 50,000 people. Several cities above 10,000 people do not have a single Baptist church and some do not have a church of any kind. Less than 7% of the Australian people even attend church, whether that be Baptist, Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, etc. Though many do not realize it, Australia is a country in desperate need of the gospel and the preaching of the Word of God.

Through his love and burden for the people of Australia, Traver is determined to see souls saved for Christ, disciple them, and train them to be the Christian leaders that Australia needs in this spiritually dark time.

Traver is prepared to step up and answer the call of God to plant churches in Australia thanks to his education and multiple pastoral internships. His faith and trust in God are a firm and solid foundation that will press him forward for the cause of Christ.

Education:

Traver received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministries from Pensacola Christian College in
Pensacola, Florida, in May of 2010. He graduated with honors and was recognized in Who`s Who and
Christian Leadership for his role in the many ministries of the college. Traver received his Master of Divinity degree from Pensacola Theological Seminary in July 2013.

General Overview of Past Ministry Experience:

While in college, Traver led a Christian service project to a juvenile detention center. This ministry utilized the gifts of many college students through music and preaching and saw many teenagers come to know Jesus Christ each semester. Also, children`s and teen ministries are a highlight for Traver. During his Australia summer internship in 2010, Traver had the opportunity to begin the Youth Group at Murray River Baptist Church in Mildura, Australia. He has been involved with Vacation Bible Schools since he was 14. In 2012, Traver was also able to organize and administrate a VBS in Mildura, Australia. Traver currently teaches children`s Sunday School at Shadow Mountain Community Church in San Diego, CA. This practical experience has proven invaluable and will be great a tool for the future.

amy

Salvation Testimony:

When I seven years old, I remember in AWANA club learning about Jesus and how He died for our sins. Later that night after I got home, I told my dad that I wanted to be saved and that I wanted to go to Heaven. My dad was able to lead me to the Lord that night.

Call to Ministry:

During my Freshman year of college we had a missions conference. It was during this week that I was burdened for the mission field. During that week I dedicated my life to missions whether full-time or part-time. I knew that I wanted to be involved somehow. The next semester I was presented with a chance to go on a missions trip to Australia. The Lord allowed me to be on the team that next summer. It was during this trip that I realized that I wanted to go back to Australia as a missionary. During the next year God brought Traver and I together. Traver was also on the team trip. We both were able to return a second time as a dating couple and God confirmed on this second trip that he wanted us back in Australia. After I graduated from College with my undergraduate degree, Traver and I got married and were able to go back to Australia in 2012.

Ministry Objective:

My goals for the ministry are to first support my husband in the work that he will be doing. I also plan to get involved in Children`s ministries whether it is teaching in a kid`s club or in sunday school. I have always been burdened for the deaf and a goal that I would love to accomplish would be to learn Auslan, the Australian sign language. I would love to be able to work with the deaf and to be able to share the Gospel with them.

Education:

I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Commercial Art from Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, in the year 2011. I received my Master of Bible Exposition degree from Pensacola Theological Seminary in May 2013.

General Overview of Past Ministry Experience:

I have had experience teaching in Vacation Bible Schools whether teaching crafts, helping out or teaching the lessons. I have also had some experience teaching Sunday school when I was needed. While in Australia, I was able to work with teens at camp, kid`s club, sunday school and various other projects that needed to get done.

Currently I am working in the children`s ministry and nursery ministry at our sending church, Shadow Mountain Community Church. Through all these trips and my current internship I am able to gain practical experience that will be useful while on deputation and on the mission field.

Our desire is to return to Australia and begin working alongside missionaries our fellow ABWE missionaries in the Greater Sydney area. We will assist these veteran missionaries as we begin to learn and understand the Australian culture. We will be in this role for approximately two years as we obtain our permanent residency status in Australia. At this time, we will see to plant a church of our own in a town or city that does not currently have a Bible believing, preaching church.

We are planning to be involved in:

  • Church Planting
  • Teaching & training pastors
  • Evangelism
  • Discipleship
  • Teen ministry
  • Children`s ministry

Will you pray with us that the Lord will direct our ministry according to His will?

Shadow Mountain Community Church is our sending church in San Diego, CA. Their website may be found at http://www.shadowmountain.org/.

A Message from Pastor David Jeremiah:

I am thrilled that you have taken time out of your busy schedule to visit Shadow Mountain. We feel that the church should be a real place, a place that is warm and relevant to the lives of real people in normal everyday situations. It is always a joy to hear another testimony of how God is daily changing the lives of the members at Shadow Mountain.

So many of our visitors are searching for answers to some of life`s most challenging questions. It is our desire that that search will lead to the discovery of the incredible and unconditional love of God. Forgiveness for sin is available to every man because God sent His Son Jesus to suffer the wrath of a Holy God against sin, in order that we might be forgiven.

We enjoy regular opportunities for fellowship after evening services or Saturday evenings. We schedule recreational activities for young families. We provide organized youth fun nights. We teach our children the truth of God`s word in an interesting format. We see value in the exposition of Scripture. Our desire is to share the original message of Jesus Christ with a changing world.

We pray that you have experienced this incredible truth in your own life. Shadow Mountain is made up of people just like you, and it is a place with something for everyone, regardless of the stage in life. The purpose of Shadow Mountain is to help find some of the answers to questions you might have about the God we serve and love. When you are in the San Diego area, it would be an honor to have you join us for worship.

Rejoicing,
Dr. David Jeremiah

Mission Board

Independent Baptist Mission

ABWE is an unaffiliated, independent Baptist missions agency providing like-minded churches with vital services to expedite their Great Commission ministry. We serve local churches by providing administrative oversight and training for the missionaries that they recommend to us. This includes member care, financial coordination, team building, professional training and general administration.

International

ABWE is international in that we have administrative offices in both the U.S. and Canada, and we partner with indigenous missions agencies and churches around the world. We are intercultural in that we welcome personnel from every racial, cultural and national background residing in North America.

The ABWE Family

The total ABWE family is about 1,200 people (including field personnel, headquarters staff, short-term and retired missionaries and board members). More than 900 missionaries serve alongside our national colleagues in about 60 countries.

Sending and Support Churches

The number of churches that send missionaries with ABWE is about 500, and the number that support our missionaries is 4,000 to 5,000.

Our Missionaries

ABWE missionaries carry out a complete spectrum of biblical ministries, specializing in discipleship-evangelism that plants and multiplies churches which will pick up the torch of missions themselves and launch their own local and global missions movements. Our objective is: church-planting movements leading to missions movements for the glory of God. “From every nation to every nation!”

Our Distinctives

ABWE distinctives include: doctrinal integrity, focus on evangelism and disciple-making, pursuit of life-long training, commitment to excellence, emphasis on team building, compassion-in-action and partnering with nationals.

The Inspiration of the Bible

We believe the Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God. We believe the writings of the Old and New Testaments are fully God-breathed to the extent that the very words were chosen by God from the human writers vocabulary so that the Bible is the very word of God, inerrant in all its assertions and teachings. The Bible is therefore the only infallible authority for both doctrine and life. Since this is true, it is the special revelation of God to man and the only basis for true Christian unity. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Matthew 5:18; Acts 1:16; Mark 12:36; 2 Peter 1:19-21; Hebrews 4:12; John 10:35;16:12,13;17:17)

The Person of God the Father

We believe God is supreme in His Person, eternal in His being, absolute in His attributes, and glorious in His Perfection. We believe in the Trinity. We believe in one Triune God, the creator of heaven and earth. We believe that in the unity of the Godhead there are three distinct persons, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory. God is personal, spirit, omniscient, sovereign, perfect, immutable, eternal in His being, holiness, love, wisdom, and power. We believe that God is absolutely separate and above the world as its creator, yet every where present in the world as the sustainer of all things. God is self-existent and self-revealing in His relationship with His creation. (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; Deuteronomy 4:35; 6:4; 1 Corinthian 8:6; John 1:1-3; Romans 1:2-4; Ephesians 4:3-6)

The Person of Jesus Christ

We believe in the virgin birth of Christ, His Deity, and sinless life, His vicarious death, along with His bodily resurrection and ascension, and in His personal, pre-millennial return. We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is the second person of the Godhead, God in the flesh, virgin born as no other man has ever been born nor ever will be born. He lived an absolutely sinless life and became the sinner`s voluntary substitute on the Cross by His vicarious death for man`s sin. Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day, giving eternal assurance of redemption`s full payment and the satisfaction of God`s righteous indignation toward sin. He ascended bodily into heaven and he will come to rapture His saints to be with Himself. His coming for His saints is imminent and will be personal, pre-tribulational, and pre-millennial. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18; John 1:1; 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Luke 1:35; 1 Peter 2:22; 3:18)

The Person of Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the executive of the Godhead. We believe that He executes the Plan of God for our conviction and salvation. Christians are partakers of the Holy Spirit and empowered for service by Him. We believe the Holy Spirit is a person possessing all the attributes of Deity. He convicts the unbelieving world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He regenerates, seals, indwells, fills the believer and bestows gifts upon believers for service. He teachers the believer and sets him apart for a holy life. We believe the Bible repudiates the charismatic emphasis upon the experiential oriented tongues and ecumenical practices as any ministry of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Holy Spirit is the Commander-in-Chief of missions and that His testimony is not of Himself but Jesus Christ and the redemptive truths centered in Christ. (John 14:16,17; 16:8; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Acts 5:3,4; Ephesians 1:13,14; Romans 8:9)

The Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God and by choice fell into sin and death. Hence, every person is sinful and under condemnation to eternal judgment. We believe that man was created by a direct act of God in the image and likeness of his Creator. By disobedience to the revealed will of God, man forfeited his reign over the earth and fell from his created state and standing with God. Therefore, all men are universally sinful both by nature and choice, and are void of the righteousness of God. All men are thus alienated from the life and family of God, without excuse, under the righteous judgment and wrath of God, and have within themselves no possible means of salvation. (Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; 5:12-19; Isaiah 53:6; Ephesians 2:1-3).

The Salvation of Sinners

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of Grace, and that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation. We believe in the salvation of man by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. We believe that salvation is the free gift of God, neither merited nor secured in part nor in whole by any virtue or work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in Whom all true believers have as a present possession the gift of eternal life, a perfectly righteous standing, sonship in the family of God by a new birth. We believe that the cross of Christ is redemptive, substitutionary, propitiatory and the only basis of reconciliation for all lost men who believe and that there is no possible salvation outside of Jesus Christ and His shed blood. (John 3:3-6, 16;10:28-29; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Timothy 2:5,6; 1 Peter 1:18-23).

The Free Gift of Salvation

We believe that the blessings of salvation are made free by the Gospel, that nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel. We believe that salvation was accomplished on the cross by Jesus Christ and is extended to all men as a gift to be received by faith. The basis of this salvation is totally the grace that provided the cross. Although all men are responsible to receive the gift of salvation in Christ, only those who respond to the ministry of the Spirit of God in the presentation of the Gospel will be saved. Salvation is the free and completed gift of God to all who will believe. (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; 12:46; Acts 16:31; Romans 10:11-13).

The Security of a Believer

We believe that those who receive Jesus Christ as Savior are eternally secure. Our security rests on the finished work of Jesus Christ. As a result, we have assurance. We believe that the true believer is forever secure as a redeemed possession of God. This security is founded on the full payment of the believer`s sin by the cross of Christ in His substitutionary atonement and God`s proof of receipt of that payment in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The sole condition of salvation is faith in Jesus Christ and His redemptive work. This positive expression of faith has as its negative side repentance and rejection of any other basis of salvation. Therefore, the security of the believer is not conditioned upon his circumstances nor emotional experiences nor strength but it is an acceptance of that basis of reconciliation which has already been accepted by God. The believer is in the possession of God, which is the opposite of lost. He is secure because God has taken the responsibility for His own. (John 10:27-30; 1 John 2:1-2; Romans
